SiTime receives 2006 R&D 100 Award

Sunnyvale, Calif. July 11, 2006 –SiTime, a privately held Silicon Valley startup bringing the first MEMS based all silicon timing solutions to compete with quartz, has been selected by an independent judging panel and editors of R&D Magazine as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year.

The SiTime silicon resonator is an electro-statically driven micro-mechanical device that has ppm performance similar to consumer grade quartz products.  The company expects that the availability of these devices will quickly replace a large portion of the existing quartz technology which currently dominates the market for a majority of electronic timing and frequency generation “clock” applications.  The SiTime SiResTM SiT1xxx and SiT8002 oscillator families generate frequencies between 1 to 125 MHz with excellent temperature and jitter performance and are packaged in tiny industry standard IC packages, which provide significant cost, size, and reliability advantages over quartz.

“SiTime is proud to be a winner of the R&D 100 Awards,” said Kurt Petersen, CEO and Co-founder of SiTime.  “SiTime oscillator products truly represent an industry-transforming technology.  With over 10 billion quartz crystals used every year in every conceivable electronic product, the potential impact of SiTime silicon resonators is tremendous.”

For 44 years, the prestigious R&D 100 Awards, also known as the "The Oscars of Invention", by The Chicago Tribune, have been helping companies provide the important initial push a new product needs to compete successfully in the marketplace. The winning of an R&D 100 Award provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product is one of the most innovative ideas of the year. The formal announcement will be made in the September 2004 issue of R&D Magazine.

“By utilizing standard semiconductor manufacturing and packaging processes SiTime’s MEMS First™ innovation has overcome the major hurdles that have made the commercialization of MEMS based timing solutions inconceivable for companies in the past”,  added Markus Lutz, COO and inventor of the MEMS First process.  “The SiTime Team looks forward to bringing this innovation to the world of electronic timing.”

About SiTime

SiTime Corporation manufactures and develops MEMS Silicon resonators and related products. The MEMS First TM process licensed from Robert Bosch GmbH has removed the technical barriers preventing wide acceptance of this quartz replacement technology. The first oscillator product with excellent stability, low phase noise, and a programmable frequency range is due to sample in Q1’06 and will be suitable for consumer, automotive, and industrial timing applications. SiTime’s primary investors are Greylock, NEA venture capital firms and Robert Bosch GmbH. More information about SiTime is available online at www.sitime.com or www.sitime.jp
