SiTime Introduces First Programmable, Differential Oscillator for Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet Applications

High Performance, Low Jitter Oscillator Offer Customizable Features and Fast Time To Market

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – July 28, 2009 – SiTime Corporation, the leader in MEMS-based silicon timing solutions, today introduced the SiT9102AC differential oscillator for Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications. High performance networking equipment such as multi-port Ethernet Switches, Fiber to the Home (FTTH) equipment such as Optical Line Terminals (OLT) and Optical Network Units (ONUs), broadband Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) as well as high-end Internet Protocol (IP) Set Top Boxes can use the SiT9102AC to provide clocks for Ethernet functions. The devices are available in industry-standard surface-mount packages, enabling easy and cost-effective replacement of quartz-based solutions. Customized samples are available in 24 hours and production quantities are available in 2-3 weeks.

“SiTime’s programmable, differential output oscillators enable high performance networking equipment manufacturers to differentiate their products and accelerate their time to market,” said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing at SiTime. “The SiT9102AC has many customizable features and meets the stringent timing requirements of Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet protocols.”

The SiT9102AC oscillator is available in 125 MHz, 156.25 MHz, and 161.1328 MHz output frequencies. Samples of custom frequency devices, which help improve throughput or reduce bit errors, such as 156.25391 MHz for 10 Gigabit Ethernet or 125.00625 MHz for Gigabit Ethernet, are also available within 24 hours. The clock output is configured to comply with Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic (LVPECL), which is consistent with the Ethernet standards. The oscillators offer total frequency stability of ±25 PPM over the extended commercial temperature range (-20°C to +70°C), which helps improve system timing margin. The following features are also configurable on the SiT9102AC oscillator:

Control pin: Output Enable (OE)
Output frequency: 125 MHz for Gigabit Ethernet. 156.25 MHz and 161.1328 MHz for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Other customized frequencies are available upon request.

As with all other MEMS-based timing devices from SiTime, the SiT9102AC oscillators are 10 times more robust and reliable than quartz. The devices are currently in volume production. Budgetary pricing for the 156.25 MHz device in 1K quantities is $7.00.
