NEWS BRIEFS

2005 Recap The past year has been one with tremendous growth and success for SiTime. Finding its home at 990 Almanor Ave. in Sunnyvale California in early January, SiTime continued become the topic of discussion amongst Silicon Valley executives, media, and MEMS specialists worldwide. SiTime captured series A investment of $11.5 M, mostly from VCfs including New Enterprise Associates, Greylock Partners, and Campventures during December 2004 and has established strategic partnerships with Robert Bosch GmbH, Silicon Valley Tech Center, Cadence, and TSMC.

SiTime ventures East to kick off The Official Technology and Product launch SiTime will be hosting various media in Taipei, Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul, and Tokyo during the month of April in an effort to introduce their proprietary MEMS First ? process technology, and SiRes? product line to the Far East. About SiTime Technology The most ubiquitous electronic component which has not yet succumbed to silicon integration is the quartz resonating crystal. The quartz crystal comprises its own significant, $3B industry, separate from silicon. Over 9 billion quartz crystals are manufactured every year, more than one for every person on the planet. They are present in virtually every electronic device, from watches, to cell phones, to printers, to TVs, to set-top boxes. Engineers use them without even thinking, to provide the necessary heart-beat in electronic circuits.

Finally, SiTime has found a way to integrate this required electronic function in a silicon chip. Itfs about time! For over 30 years, tiny resonating elements have been built on silicon, only to have them fail when compared to quartz. SiTime has found a way to solve the problems previous companyfs faced by creating these elements below the surface of the silicon wafer, encapsulated inside the chip, protected from the environment, and allowing the silicon chip to be packaged inexpensively, just like any other silicon chip. SiTime has exploited this process in a modern 200mm silicon wafer format, allowing us to use the most modern integrated circuit technologies. SiTime has integrated this technology with modern CMOS circuits to easily interface with the rest of the circuits in the product. SiTime has employed modern, high volume packaging technologies which allow the silicon resonator to be handled just like any other silicon component. Today, one can locate quartz crystals on a circuit board by their visual appearance. SiTime resonators and oscillators look just like any other silicon component. Future SiTime products will incorporate two or more oscillators on the same chip, thereby increasing the level of integration. Furthermore, all of this comes with the known quality and the low cost of silicon integrated circuit technology.

PRODUCT UPDATES
Only 14 months since itfs inception, SiTime, a privately held Silicon Valley startup is announcing the availability of engineering samples of itfs MEMS First TM and EpiSeal TM processed oscillators in two low-cost oscillator families, SiT1xxx and SiT8002. . SiTime expects that more than 90% of the current 9 billion quartz resonators and oscillators manufactured yearly resulting in over $3 Billion ( US) sales revenue will be served by silicon mechanical resonators. Target applications include: consumer, computational, automotive, wireless and industrial applications.

SiTimefs SiRes TM SiT1xxx oscillator family is offered in more than 173 frequencies from 1.000 MHz to 125.000 MHz at optional frequency tolerances of +/-50 ppm or +/-100 ppm in industrial (-40 to 85‹C) or commercial (0 to 70‹C) temperature ranges. Also, 4 packages sizes from 5.0 mm x 7.0 mm x 0.85 mm down to 2.0 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.85 mm are available.

SiTime'sfs SiRes TM SiT8002 programmable oscillator family is offered as a fast-turn, rapid prototype, custom frequency or low-volume solution in a frequency range from 1.000 MHz to 125.000 MHz, +/-50 ppm or +/-100 ppm, and 4 packages sizes down to 2.0 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.85 mm. The SiT8002 is form, fit, and function compatible with the SG-8002 and similar quartz-based programmable oscillators while offering better jitter performance, lower power, and smaller package options at more competitive prices.

TheSiT1xxx fixed frequency and the SiT8002 programmable SiRes? oscillator families will be available to sample for select customers worldwide. To discover more about the SiRes? oscillator family or request samples emailmarketing@sitime.com
