Oscillators with Spread Spectrum Technology and 100 or 200 MHz HCSL Outputs are Ideal for Networking, Storage and Computing Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – July 14, 2009 – SiTime Corporation, the leader in MEMS-based silicon timing solutions, today introduced the industry’s first EMI-reducing differential oscillators for PCI-Express or FB-DIMM applications. High-volume applications such as Personal Computers, Servers, RAID Controllers, Host Bus Adapters, Networked Attached Storage (NAS), Multi-Service Access Platforms and high-end Graphics Cards can use these SiT9002AI oscillators to provide clocks for PCI-Express or FB-DIMM and also use the built-in spread spectrum technology to reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI) in their applications. The devices are available in industry-standard footprints, enabling easy and cost-effective replacement of quartz-based solutions. Customized samples are available in 24 hours and production quantities are available in 2-3 weeks.

The SiT9002AI oscillators offer numerous features that are compliant with PCI-Express and FB-DIMM timing standards. The differential outputs are configured to comply with the High-Speed Current Steering Logic (HCSL) specification. The SiT9002AI’s 0.5% down-spread spread spectrum technology enables designers to reduce EMI up to 16 dB and pass compliance testing without lengthy delays, expensive board redesign, or shielding. In addition, the devices offer the industry’s best cycle-cycle jitter of 15ps, enabling designers to use spread spectrum technology without compromising timing margin. The oscillators offer total frequency stability of ±50 PPM over the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). The following features are also configurable on the SiT9002AI oscillators:

  • Power supply voltage: 3.3V or 2.5V
  • Package size; 7.0 x 5.0 x 0.9 mm or 5.0 x 3.2 x 0.75 mm
  • Control pin: Output Enable (OE) or Spread Disable (SD)
  • Output frequency: 100 MHz or 200 MHz for PCI-Express or FB-DIMM. Other customized frequencies are available upon request.

As with all other MEMS-based timing devices from SiTime, the SiT9002AI oscillators are 10 times more robust and reliable than quartz. The devices are currently in volume production. Budgetary pricing for the 100 MHz device in 1K quantities is $7.57.
